Today, February 24th, marks the 53rd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Mongolia and Japan.

The friendly relations and cooperation between Mongolia and Japan, which share common values of freedom, democracy, and the rule of law, have now been stepped up and strengthened to a higher level of “people-based” and “special strategic partnership for peace and prosperity”.

Although political relations between the two countries were limited from the establishment of diplomatic relations until the 1990s, an institutional basis for exchange and cooperation was laid, and the active efforts of friendship and goodwill organizations played an important role in cooperation during this period.

Since the 1990s, when democratic change and renewal began in Mongolia, an era of rapid development began in Mongolian-Japanese relations. We will always be deeply grateful to the Government and people of Japan for their earliest support in overcoming the difficulties that our country faced during the period of regime transition, as well as for taking the lead in supporting countries internationally in the development and reform of Mongolia.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to all of you who have made valuable contributions with your warm sincerity and untiring efforts to develop our friendship and valued partnership in such a profound way, and congratulate you on the anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

Furthermore, an important event is about to take place that will be written in gold letters in the history of our bilateral relations. The Government of Japan announced last month that Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress of Japan will visit Mongolia this summer. This will be the first state visit to Mongolia by Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress.

We sincerely hope that the “Special Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity” between Mongolia and Japan will further develop and prosper for the national interests of our two countries and for peace and stability in the region.
